I’m golden! And Authorized….

Just a quick update to say that the GI endo biopsy and placement of gold seeds was totally uneventful. I remember nothing of the procedure, and had a good brief visit with Dr Van Dam before and after. The frozen confirmed this to be carcinoma – so there were no surprises. And I have no after effects, at least within the next 6 hours.

After meeting yesterday afternoon with my primary physician, Dr Burn, and laying out my choice of chemo/radiation, he was able to get me authorized for Stanford to do the stereotaxic radiotherapy (Trilogy). This was a quick answer to prayer as the authorization papers arrived in the mail within 24 hours!

Bonnie waited patiently for my discharge, and drove me home. I walked into the house, had a delayed b’fast and took a short nap. Only to be suddenly awakened to the alarm that our neighbor, who just came home from the Urgent Care post triple bypass last week, had collapsed getting out of the car. We were able to get him onto a mat and he revived quickly from the syncopal episode and was whisked away by paramedics for more evaluation at the hospital. Bonnie went right back to the hospital behind the ambulance to drive our neighbor’s wife to the ER. Both of our neighbor husbands across the street are recovering from cardiac bypass surgery – so you can see that we have something of an epidemic.

We are so thankful for the prayers of many – and also for the peace we have knowing that our lives are in the hands of a loving God!

Peace I leave you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. Jn 14:27

Turk,
Thanks for keeping us updated. Sounds serious, but seems like a very targetted treatment which may work.
My phrase this morning was "my rock and my redeemer". Solid and sure.

Paul,

I just heard of your condition last night at the Class of '57 reunion at the Robertson's. Shirley passes your blog address to me. Our prayers will be with you all the way.

Paul and Bonnie,
I've finally been able to register for this Blog! I am so glad to be able to keep up to date and am praying many times daily as the Lord brings you to mind. It seems somewhat unreal as I imagine it does to you; but trust you are feeling moment by moment that the Lord is more and more real and has you in His care! Your lives have always given Him glory and this will be no exception!
Love, Joanne

Hi Paul,
Today in Boomer's Denny mentioned you are being considered for a special surgical technique, but I forgot the name. I'm guessing it is some form of image guided stereotactic surgery? If so it sounds like a good plan. We are all keeping you in our prayers.

We are following your blogs and thank you for keeping us up to date with all that is going on. We pray for the peace of God which passes all understanding for you and the family at this very challenging time. May you know the presence of the Great Physician and experience His healing touch. We know God will be glorified as you trust Him.

Paul--Chuck says to remind you that many people used to think you were Kermit's "Golden Boy", so maybe it's consistant that you're now seeded with gold! On a practical level, a dear friend of ours undergoing chemo for breast CA is finding her iPod most helpful. She downloads from iTunes NPR stories, books, magazine articles, etc. and listens to them both during the chemo process and afterward on the day she doesn't feel so hot.
You're in our prayers,
Kathy and Chuck

A very dear friend of mine is undergoing another round of chemo for thymoma... So, my friends created a "kitchen group" on Yahoo!. We set up a calendar so that any of us, on certain days, can bring them dinner. On chemo days, or days of their choice, his spouse does not have to cook! It has worked out beautifully and has been so helpful. Their freezer is now always stocked with nutritious and tasty food.

The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7
